“In the end we will conserve only what we love; we will love only what we understand; and we will understand only what we are taught.” (Baba Dioum, 1968.)
Cresta Shopping Centre’s new Aquarium was unveiled on Thursday the 4th 2019. The aquarium, aptly named, Crestquarium, is intended to introduce a unique underwater experience and educational opportunity to the surrounding community, including children (and adults) who might have never, and may never be afforded the opportunity to experience underwater life, or learn how their actions can negatively or positively affect ocean life. The Aquarium is intended to play an important educational role for the overall betterment of society and to create environmental awareness.
“Cresta believes this single tank can play a powerful educational role for the care of our oceans and marine life. School trips will be hosted with learners from the surrounding areas – with the less fortunate being sponsored – to experience these natural wonders and learn about them and their environment, and how our daily habits and behaviours can affect life underwater,” says Virginia Bester, General Manager, Cresta Shopping Centre. “The Aquarium exhibit is all about getting people to form a connection with nature so that they learn to care enough to protect it,” continued Bester. The Aquarium’s educational elements will provide invaluable holistic insight on sea life including the impact of pollution and global warming.
