Total centre turnover: 2.09 billion (2007)
Since 1976, the Cresta Centre has changed beyond all recognition. Alongside the formerly mapped D F Malan Drive, now Beyers Naude Drive in Cresta Ext 4, Randburg, for its investors and sole owners, De Bruyn Plan. From being a large community centre in bygone days, Cresta has emerged into a regional shopping destination, currently boasting a GLA of approximately 94 000 m².
Cresta's sprawling, elegant malls are embraced within 3 levels - each one offering a delectably indulgent variety of state-of-the-art merchandise, services and entertainment.
Cresta Centre is located in the heart of the affluent residential nodes between Sandton to the Northeast, Randburg to the Northwest and the Johannesburg CBD to the South.
Cresta has undergone a number of refurbishments (its last internal 'facelift' was conducted during 1993) and expansions (last extension encompassed the addition of a new wing in the form of 'Cresta Gardens', launched with much fanfare in 2003).
This ongoing change to the Centre's façade and boost of tenant offering has contributed to the positioning of the centre as a vital and dynamic retail destination in the Northcliff/Randburg area. Anchor tenants now include Woolworths, Edgars, Game, Pick 'n Pay, Checkers, Ster Kinekor, and Stuttafords.
In total, the centre is home to over 240 stores. The centre's last major extension was conducted in 2 separate phases during 2003. Phase 1 saw:
(a) the disappearance of OK Bazaars as an anchor tenant with a 'new age' Checkers taking its place;
(b) an additional 700 parking bays in an undercover three leveled parking arcade;
(c) the creation of an additional 600m² of retail space adjacent to the Edgars entrance, which was morphed (with focused subtlety) into a well-received lifestyle/home leisure and decor precinct and the expansion of the Game store to a whopping 6 000 m².
Phase 2 of the programme was designed to - and succeeded in creating - a metamorphic change in the nature of the centre. In essence, an entertainment component was added to the existing Ster Kinekor movie/restaurant precinct on the north-eastern end of the centre whilst a major food outlet, Pick 'n Pay, served to anchor the far end.
The expansion occurred on three levels. On the upper level, a new mall was created which linked the existing fast-food outlet area at the entrance to Game to the new section. With an offering of over 4 000 m², Pick 'n Pay is accessed via the use of a new entrance leading off from the extended open air car park area, serving the cinema entrance.
The upper level, bar Pick 'n Pay, is devoted almost entirely to entertainment, lifestyle and leisure. Tenants include a Barnyard Theatre, a 10-pin bowling alley, additional music shops, bookstores, branded fashion stores and an array of eateries, including fine dining and trendy coffee shops.
The day to day operation of the centre are being managed by Broll Property Services.
Recent and Current Projects
The opening of the new state of the art Northcliff BMW Dealership in November 2009 within the Cresta Shopping Centre precinct is sign of even better things to come at the centre.
Construction is also underway for the new multi storey parkade located between entrance 4 and 12 at the centre with the aim of providing further convenience to our shoppers with additional 510 parking bays.
